What is the history of “The Great Pretender”? By the birthday of the leading tenor of the PLATTERS Tony Williams in the 1950s among black singers becomes very popular style, which is later called the word “doo-wop”. The main role is played by the vocals, which did not cease throughout the song and created the background for the leading voice.

Well, the rest of the Toolkit played only a supporting role. The first “stars” of du-wop were the participants of the American Vocal Quartet the PLATTERS, who gave the world at least two scented ballads that remember, love and sing for more than half a century.

Although the history of the band began in 1953, its “star hour” came when PLATTERS took under his managerial wing composer Buck RAM. First, he made important personnel changes, has been appointed the lead tenor Tony Williams and diluted male team female vocal in the face of Ash Taylor. So by 1955, the “Golden” platters line-up was formed: Tony Williams (tenor), Zola Taylor (Alt), David Lynch (tenor), Paul Robi (baritone) and herb reed (bass). It remained for the hits.

And the first big hit was born on light thanks to two happy accidents. Once the business partner of Rama — Jean Bennett — delving into his garage, picked up the box was so old that they fall apart. On the floor was showered with leaves. As it turned out, these were archives of the composer’s old songs — written, but not implemented.

The Platters is an American vocal group formed in 1952. They were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and rollera. Their distinctive sound was a bridge between the pre-rock Tin Pan Alley tradition and the burgeoning new genre. The act went through several personnel changes, with the most successful incarnation comprising lead tenor Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor.

The group had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1955 and 1967, including four number-one hits. The Platters were one of the first African-American groups to be accepted as a major chart group and were, for a period of time, the most successful vocal group in the world.
