Loyal Cat Refuses To Leave The Side Of Dying Best Friend

This is the heartbreaking story of a cat who was loyal until the very end. Dogs are usually known for being loyal, especially more so than traditionally fickle cats, but Trooper is the exception that proves the rule.
The Hackney family found the cat in the basement of a house they were refurbishing. Their intentions to quickly complete the renovations before selling the place were briefly halted when they heard a gentle mewing from the basement.
Alexis Hackney explained that the kitten “was inside the wall, and my mom and sister had to get a sledgehammer, and bust out the sheet-rock and get her… She was about 2 weeks old. Her eyes were barely open.”
The family took her in, and named her Trooper, for obvious reasons. To this day they have no idea how she got there, or how she survived long enough for them to find her.

Trooper soon formed a close bond with her rescuers, but the family only realised how close when their grandmother fell ill. Unbeknownst to the others, Trooper and grandma Sarah had formed a stronger bond than anyone else.
When the family knew their grandmother wasn’t going to get better, it seemed like Trooper knew too. She slept on Sarah’s bed to make her feel better and brought her gifts from around the house to cheer her up.
When the inevitable came to pass, and Sarah, unfortunately, passed away, Trooper was as heartbroken as any other family member.
Alexis explained that “she stopped eating. She’s not a very vocal cat, but she was just walking around the house, crying all of the time.”

Thankfully, Trooper is feeling better now. It’s clear that she still misses Sarah, as she still brings gifts of socks from across the house to her grandmother’s old room.
